big wreck

Remember Big Wreck? They were formed by Ian Thornley in 1994 and disbanded in 2002. Ian went on to a successful solo career with his own band Thornley.

Now Big Wreck are back and will release their third studio album "Albatross" on March 6th via Anthem Records - Warner Music Canada. The 11-song outing was produced by Thornley, alongside executive producer Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Rush) and Eric Ratz (Billy Talent, Cancer Bats).

SON OF A BAD MAN first full length album martedì, 31 gennaio 2012 01:35 by madseason
son of a bad man

Son Of A Bad Man released their debut full length album last Saturday. It's titled "Here's To The Falling In…" and is the follow-up to the band's self-titled EP that was released in 2010 through Universal Republic Records. Since then they got dropped from the label and launched a Kickstarter campaign to get some help for the making of the album.

This is what band leader Shawn Fisher had to say to AlternativeAddiction.com about the sound of the band: "I feel like "southern pop" fits, because southern rock… all of these mainstream rock radio bands have kind of taken their own spin on southern rock. That’s just hard rock and we’re not a hard rock band. But we’re not a pop rock band either. So I feel like adding a southern twang with a Matchbox Twenty type sound, that’s the best way to describe us.

You can donwload "Love Like Mine (feat. Runner Runner)", a song off "Here's To The Falling In…", at this link (right click and save).
Putting sex in sound: THE VIOLET LIGHTS lunedì, 30 gennaio 2012 00:44 by madseason
the violet lights

From the bio of the band: "The Violet Lights are a rock duo based in Silver Lake, Los Angeles, California. Recording their debut EP, "Sex & Sound", at the legendary Hollywood studio Sunset Sound, they emerged with what is being described as a "Velvet Underground descendant collection of songs more befitting of the garage label than, say, The Strokes" and a sound labeled "a mash-up of Britpop, NYC garage rock and West Coast guitar musings."

Well, I'll just call this quality, radio-friendly pop rock with traces of what mentioned in the bio. However, judge by yourself by listening to The Violet Lights' 5-track debut EP "Sex & Sound" at their webpage. And while you're at it, subscribe to their mailing list and a get a song for free!

RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS are Looking Around giovedì, 26 gennaio 2012 00:32 by madseason
red hot chili peppers

I talked about video director Robert Hales in the previous post about Jane's Addiction. Well, for coincidence, the just released video for Red Hot Chili Peppers' new single "Look Around" had Mr. Hales at the shooting helm. The clip features the band rocking and doing stupid things in adjoining rooms.   "I can say that the band were great to work with -real gentlemen- and it was a genuinely collaborative process," director Hales told Spinner.com site. "They were all extremely involved creatively. Each room loosely represented the band members' personalities, so almost all the props and artwork in the rooms came from their personal collections." Enjoy the video clicking on the frame on the left.
