ashville alternative rock quartet Satellite released their debut full-length album "Calling Birds" last month via Descendant Records/Sony Music.

The album, produced by guitar player and songwriter Mitch Allan (remember him in great band SR-71?), features 11 tracks, including the 6 songs that formed 2010's debut EP "Ring The Bells".

"Calling-Birds is meant to reference the one sound in the night that reminds you the sun's coming up. Like maybe the songs point out something making life a little easier, and, that in more ways than not, we aren't facing it alone," main songwriter/lead singer Steven McMorran explains.

If you listened to that EP, you already know what to expect from "Calling Birds". If it's the first time you read of Satellite, I can tell you they sound like a mix of One Republic, Snow Patrol, Kings Of Leon and Coldplay with a touch of Americana and US rootsy rock: a great sound enriched by haunting melodies and heartfelt lyrics.

Qui a weChameleon abbiamo un debole per un certo tipo di sound giovane, melodico e moderno, quello che convenzionalmente facciamo passare per modern/power/pop-rock, ma semplificando in tutto e per tutto rappresenta il melodic rock del nuovo millennio. Un genere che nel volgere di poco tempo, pompato a dovere da influenti major si è inflazionato a dismisura, con il risultato di prodotti omologati ad un trend di volta in volta dai risultati (ormai sia commerciali che artistici) inversamente proporzionali all'hype creato intorno alla new sensation di turno. Il gioco perverso è che, nel marasma di band tutte uguali, si perdono i prodotti di "qualità", ossia album che pur rifacendosi ad un canovaccio già ampiamente passato al setaccio meritano d'esser presi in considerazione per la presenza di una manciata di ipotetiche hit-song apprezzabili da chi cerca la propria dose quotidiana di canzoni melodiche.

Gli Every Avenue fanno parte di questa categoria di band. Suonano come mille altre band, lo stile è sempre un power pop/rock solarissimo, tanto che in una compilation del genere non sapresti riconoscerli. Ma nel manierismo di questo prodotto il valore aggiunto è dato dall'ormai sempre più zingaro producer/songwriter Mitch Allan (ex SR-71, a quando il suo solista in cantiere da almeno un lustro?), che contribuisce con una bella spinta in termini di hooks e tiro alle canzoni che compongono questo "Picture Perfect". Bubblegum melodies che ti si attaccano alla corteccia cerebrale in tempo zero sulla scorta di brani super catchy che portano i titoli di "Mindset", "Picture Perfect", "Girl Like That", "Finish What You Started" e la bellissima "Tell Me I'm Wreck", sicuro singolo di successo!

Se vi piace questo tipo di sonorità tra Fall Out Boy, SR-71 e Click Five, "Picture Perfect" è il disco che fa per voi.
