Eravate alla disperata ricerca del disco da mettere ad una festa, il disco che accontentasse un po’ tutti facendo ballare il piedino e muovere la testa ai rocker più incalliti e che facesse, al contempo, scatenare gli amanti della pista?
Beh, gli Zebrahead vi hanno accontentato: la band di Orange County, che visse il suo momento di gloria in Italia nel 2000 con il singolo “Playmate Of The Year”, ha sfornato un nuovo cd composto da sole cover di reginette del pop da classifica.
Il risultato è uno dei rari dischi di cover che, a mio parere, valga la pena di ascoltare; il modo più corretto di interpretare un album di questo tipo è prendere canzoni che nulla hanno a che vedere con il tuo stile e stravolgerle. Non a caso, l’unica cover che non regge il confronto è quella di “Girlfriend” di Avril Lavigne: non solo non aggiunge niente all’originale, ma perde anche in energia.
Alcune canzoni, quali “Jenny From The Block” o “Spice Up Your Life”, sono puro divertimento, mentre ad altre i nostri "testadizebra" sono riusciti a dare nuova linfa, quasi fossero classici del rapcore e del pop-punk californiano; ascoltare per credere “Survivor” o “Beautiful” di Christina Aguilera.
