Debutto di lusso per questi Sons Of Sylvia, combo formato da tre fratelli Ashley, Adam e Austin Clark, originari dello stato della Virginia con un'attività ormai decennale negli ambienti country statunitensi. Dapprima con una formazione denominata The Clark Family Experience, in pratica una all family band comprendente ben sei fratelli della famiglia Clark (a quanto pare un'autentica fucina di generazioni di musicisti) attiva in varie formazioni già dai primi anni novanta fino al 2002. Tempo in cui riescono anche a piazzare un singolo di discreto successo nelle charts country ("Meanwhile Back at the Ranch" estratto dal disco di debutto del 2000) e andare in tour con colossi del country-pop come Tim McGraw e Faith Hill. La band si scioglie però da li a poco e gli unici superstiti della formazione Adam, Ashley e Austin si ripropongono sotto il monicker "Clark Brothers" nel 2008 partecipando e vincendo il talent show "The Next American Band". Per i fratelli Clark è la seconda possibilità di ritornare sulle scene che contano e i tre non perdono tempo, prima si ridenominano "Sons Of Sylvia" e successivamente iniziano un'intesa attività live, con svariate apparizioni televisive e suonando, spesso e volentieri, sia su disco che dal vivo con l'American Idol Carrie Underwood.

Insomma con i contatti giusti nel music business guadagnano un deal con la Interscope che fornisce una produzione stellare per il disco di debutto, con la presenza di songwriters del calibro di Ryan Tedder (One Republic, nonchè cugino dei Clark!), Brian Howes (Hinder, Skillet) e Jeff Trott (Sheryl Crow). Undici le tracce che vanno a finire in questo splendido debutto a titolo "Revelation", la cui base di partenza è un country dalle melodie radiofoniche tra Gloriana, Keith Urban e gli ultimi Rascal Flatts. E' un sound pop e moderno che non scade quasi mai nel melenso, mixato sapientemente con atmosfere midwest e southern, mai sopra le righe e ben bilanciato, a cui i tre non disdegnano dare un tiro classicamente rock. Pochi i giri a vuoto in un platter che si mantiene su livelli medio-alti, partendo dai reticolati melodici dell'apripista "John Wayne" e dell'urgenza di "50 Ways" per giungere alla title track che vi conquisterà in tempo zero con quell'ambientazione da "Last Of The Runaways" in bilico tra una "Wanted Dead Or Alive" e il classico "Can't Find My Way Home". Quando irrompono le note di "I'll Know You", impossibile non capitolare se cercate il brivido melodico dell'AOR che fu questo è il brano che fa per voi, cosi come la stupenda "Ghost Town", mentre spetta all'epica "The War Within" alzare la cifra artistica del platter, con un'atmosfera drammatica e una prova vocale di Ashley Clark da brividi! Non sarà tutta farina del loro sacco direte, ma in definitiva "Revelation" è un album in bilico tra esigenze da classifica ("Love Left To Lose" e "Give Me Love" sono due facili hit single da classifica, che farebbero gola a tanti blasoni!) e la classe del migliore rock melodico. Chi si può forgiare di tale definizione nel 2010? Per noi di weChameleon uno dei dischi dell'anno a mani basse!

It’s been some time since Lonestar had a great success in the US charts, not only in the country ones. Now they’re back with a new lead singer and a new record company.

Cody Collins, the new lead vocalist, is a very good choice, and brings a new wave of bloom; sure, comparing to the past, it is always less about country and more about pop rock. Their harmonies could strike in their hearts (and ears) all the open-minded melodic rockers that don’t necessarily need the presence of distorted guitars (well, all of the people who appreciated the "Lost Highway" album from Bon Jovi).
Dreamy melodies, careful arrangements, superb production, everything is perfectly studied to bring the band back to the top of the hit parade, and every single song is top-notch.
The almost AOR "Making Memories", the driving songs "Live Laugh And Love", "Beat" and "The Future" (co-written by Matt Scannell, the Vertical Horizon leader) and the rock’n’rolling "Y.O.U." and "Party Heard Around The World" are examples of the wide range of genres offered by the band where they use always a common thread: sunny melodies that bring you, since the very first seconds of the CD, directly into the streets of the "American dream".

E' passato un po' di tempo da quando i Lonestar imperversavano nelle classifiche US e non solo in quelle country. Ora si ripresentano con un nuovo cantante e accompagnati da una nuova casa discografica.

Cody Collins, nuovo lead vocalist, si rivela un'ottima scelta, una decisa ventata di freschezza; certo, rispetto al passato di country ce n'è sempre meno e sempre più presenti, invece, sono armonie pop rock che potrebbero fare breccia nel cuore (e nelle orecchie) di tutti quei melodic rockers più aperti che non hanno bisogno, obbligatoriamente, di chitarre distorte (quelli che hanno apprezzato "Lost Highway" dei Bon Jovi, insomma!).
Melodie sognanti, arrangiamenti curati, produzione superba, tutto è studiato in maniera perfetta per far tornare in vetta alle classifiche la band e tutte le canzoni sono di alto livello.
Il quasi AOR di "Making Memories", le driving songs "Live Laugh And Love", "Beat" e "The Future" (scritta dal cantante dei Vertical Horizon, Matt Scannell) e i rock'n'roll della title track e di "Y.O.U." sono esempi della varietà offerta dalla band che utilizza come filo conduttore melodie sempre solari capaci di trasportarti direttamente sulle strade del "sogno americano" fin dai primissimi secondi di ascolto.

"I Got Your Country Right Here" rocks as Gretchen had never done before in studio, trying to instil on CD all the grit of her live shows. Succeeding completely!
Defining as country the new album would be limiting, since it overflows with different influences: southern, (the title track), blues ("As Far As You Know") and Rock & Roll ("Blue Collar Done Turn Red"). It's almost a summa of what is generally called Classic Rock.
So, nothing innovative comes from the pride of Pocahontas (her hometown), but if you are looking for good music and fun, this album is for you: it rocks hard until the last song "I'd Love To Be Your Last", an acoustic ballad somewhat boring, too bad.

"I Got Your Country Right Here" rocka come mai Gretchen aveva fatto finora in studio, cercando di trasfondere su CD tutta la grinta dei suoi live show. Riuscendoci in pieno!
Definire country questo nuovo album sarebbe riduttivo, in quanto straripante di influenze [preview]sudiste (la title track), blues ("As Far As You Know") e rock & roll ("Blue Collar Done Turn Red"). E' praticamente una summa di quello che genericamente è chiamato Classic Rock.
Quindi niente di innovativo da parte dell'orgoglio di Pocahontas (la sua città natìa), ma se cercate buona musica e divertimento, ecco il disco che fa per voi: l'album fila infatti alla grande fino all'ultima canzone "I'd Love To Be Your Last", ballata acustica alquanto soporifera, peccato.

La strana creatura nata dall'incontro tra "Big" Kenny Alphin e John Rich è giunta a una pausa di riflessione, visto che l'ultimo sforzo in studio dei B&R sulla lunga distanza è del 2007. Però i due countryrockers non sono rimasti con le mani in mano e, nel corso del 2009, hanno pubblicato un disco solista ciascuno ("Son Of A Preacher Man" per Rich e, più recentemente, "The Quiet Times Of A Rock And Roll Farm Boy" per Big) e la raccolta di successi, oggetto di questa recensione.

Per chi non li conoscesse, i Big & Rich sono tra i fondatori di Muzik Mafia, un'associazione di artisti, principalmente di ispirazione country, che vogliono condividere e diffondere il loro amore per la musica senza pregiudizi o limiti di alcun tipo.
E, quando si ascoltano i loro cd, tutto ciò è ben evidente: il loro non è il "solito" country fatto di voci nasali, delicate chitarrine slide e ballate; hanno, invece, un sound potente che mescola riff hard rock o funky a violini country conditi da intermezzi rap (courtesy of Cowboy Troy, afro-americano e membro del partito repubblicano, un personaggio che sembra uscito da un romanzo di Joe R. Lansdale, probabilmente l'unico country rapper della storia).
D'altronde le stesse collaborazioni con John Legend, Bon Jovi e Wycleaf Jean sono una prova dell'incapacità dei Big&Rich di rimanere artisticamente stagnanti, con buona pace dei country freaks più ortodossi.
Ad ogni modo, anche i nostri amano talvolta indulgere in qualcosa di più canonico, come una ballata: l'ultimo studio cd ne contiene diverse, peraltro più varie ed interessanti dei classici lenti country noiosi e melensi.

Nelle loro liriche, Kenny e John alternano argomenti più festaioli e frivoli a momenti più intensi e toccanti. Ci raccontano storie di truck driver strafottenti ("Kiss My Ass"), di cowboy strafottenti ("Save A Horse…"), di tour strafottenti ("Comin' To Your City") - ebbene sì, hanno quell'attitudine un po' strafottente da simpatici matti redneck - ma allo stesso tempo sono capaci di raccontare episodi di violenza domestica ("Holy Water") o cantare tragiche operazioni di guerra realmente accadute in Vietnam ("8th Of November").

Questo Greatest Hits, di cui è possibile acquistare separatamente anche la versione DVD (contenente però solo nove promo-video), è composto da qualche classico tratto dai tre studio album, da una canzone presente nell'EP "Big & Rich's Super Galactic Fan Pak" e dall'inedito "The Man I Am Right Now".
Un buon inizio per chi volesse entrare in contatto con l'accattivante follia di questa coppia con base a Nashville (e dove se no?!); il mio consiglio, però, è quello di dedicarsi da subito all'intera discografia: perchè procrastinare l'ascolto di perle come "Radio", "Soul Shaker", "Please Man" o l'imperdibile versione acustica di "You Shook Me All Night Long", criminosamente escluse da questo Greatest Hits?
