Platinum southern rockers Saving Abel from Corinth, MS have inked a new management deal with JHMP the management company founded by former Creed, Paramore and Sevendust manager Jeff Hanson. As part of the deal the band will be releasing their new recordings via their own label Hell No Pick’n, a joint venture with JHMP that will be run by Hanson, who also founded and runs the Warner distributed Silent Majority Group (Framing Hanley, Candlebox, Tantric, Course Of Nature).

The band’s first single "Mystify" is currently available as a free download at SavingAbel.com and on their ReverbNation page. The single will be followed by an EP "Cracking The Safe" that will be released on August 6th.

"Cracking The Safe" was produced and mixed by Saving Abel's longtime friend, collaborator and producer Skidd Mills who has produced all three of the band's previous albums. Skidd says "I think this is creatively the beginning of a really interesting new chapter for Saving Abel. Their writing has taken on a new direction that while it stays true to their rock roots and the sound that made them a platinum act and active rock core artist, it really encompasses the southern rock and country flavor of their influences like Lynyrd Skynryd, '38 Special and Johnny Cash."

I Saving Abel con il loro omonimo debutto del 2008 avevano prodotto qualcosa di elettrizzante che aveva portato una ventata di freschezza nel vastissimo mondo modern rock e quindi erano attesi al varco, accompagnati dalle aspettative di moltissimi fans sparsi per il globo. Ed effettivamente per questo ritorno hanno fatto le cose in grande, creando quell’attesa che commercialmente può far guadagnare punti in fatto di vendite. Preceduto dal ruffiano singolo apripista “Stupid Girl”, un brano mid tempo che ricorda però da vicino “Addicted” tratto dal primo album, in “Miss America” c’è poca sostanza. Ad oggi i Saving Abel sembrano essere una bella scatola, con una cura dei dettagli esteriori pazzesca (si veda una produzione curata in ogni piccolo dettaglio per un suono, bisogna ammetterlo, veramente sopra la media) ma quando tentiamo di aprire questa scatola ascoltandone il contenuto…purtroppo qui cominciano le sorprese. La band di Jared Weeks ha imparato la lezioncina, ha scoperto la formula vincente cercando di ripeterla pedestremente. E qui probabilmente entra in gioco la maturità di una band che paga lo scotto di essere nonostante tutto ancora alle prime armi e che forse si è un po’ bruciata con il successo (inaspettato) del primo album.
I brani ci sono, sono scritti bene e ruffianamente sanno andare a toccare le corde degli amanti del modern rock, ma non mordono, lasciano sempre quel non so che di amaro in bocca che lascia spiazzati. Vi sono brani che rimangono impressi nella mente come il singolo apripista di cui abbiamo detto prima, “Tap Out”, “Bloody Sunday” ma nel complesso il disco non decolla mai rimanendo ancorato a schemi da loro stessi già utilizzati, una caduta di stile di cui francamente avremmo fatto volentieri a meno. Troppi i pezzi che fungono da mero “riempitivo” come “Angel Without Wings”, “Missisipi Moonshine” dal forte sapore country rock, la poco ispirata ballata “I Need You” giusto per fare qualche nome. Una delusione che rimane tale anche dopo numerosi e ripetuti ascolti...che peccato!
