ARKELLS call for connection on brand new album Tuesday, 30 October 2018 21:18 by madseason
Arkells - Relentless

Canadian indie pop-rockers Arkells released their new, fifth studio album, last October 19 via Last Gang Records - Universal Music Canada.

Titled Rally Cry, it was produced by JUNO Award winning producer Eric Ratz (Big Wreck, Billy Talent, The Tea Party), mixed by legendary sound-wiz Mark Needham (Blue October, The Killers, Imagine Dragons) and mastered by veteran mastering engineer Greg Calbi (John Mayer, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan).

"We made Rally Cry in the midst of touring our last record, with our live show fresh in our minds each time we entered the studio" guitarist Mike DeAngelis said. "On Rally Cry, there's an urgency to recording these songs and hearing them back. It's our sharpest and most concentrated effort yet," frontman Max Kerman added. "Rally Cry is the idea of a communal heart, a connected spirit. Whether it's political songs or love songs, they share the same starting place."

Official statements aside, Rally Cry is another top notch effort showcasing a superior songwriting skill: how many acts out there can write modern-dressed, '70s influenced pop-rock songs with meaningful lyrics of this level?

RAND's Cellophane World Wednesday, 31 May 2017 22:05 by madseason
RAND - Cellophane World

Cellophane World is the debut single for Toby Rand's new solo project RAND. It's the first cut off a new album from the L.A. based Australian who over recent years has gathered a swag of international fans via his previous projects including Juke Kartel and Rock Star: Supernova.

From the opening moments of Cellophane World we are drawn into a dark and emotionally raw world. Toby Rand lets us hear the deepest of his thoughts and emotions laid over a symphonically rich rock and roll landscape with swirling electro atmospherics. "It's a battle between a character torn between self-doubt and self-belief" says Rand, "and perhaps in a way this is some of my most honest vocal work as I've tried to create music that is one-hundred-percent who I am as an artist today."

Toby reached out to Grammy winning songwriter/producer Alex Geringas (Kelly Clarkson, Anastacia, Leona Lewis) and award winning mixer, Mark Needham (Blue October, Imagine Dragons, The Killers) to help him craft a new sound for his debut solo album due later in 2017.

Wanted: BEN HAZLEWOOD Monday, 6 June 2016 21:33 by madseason
Ben Hazlewood - Wanted

I don't think many of you know Ben Hazlewood: he is a 27 years old New Zealand native/Australian singer-songwriter. He was a finalist on "The Voice" in Australia and has worked the globe from London to Nashville, where he recorded the single Wanted and its predecessor Paint Me Black with longtime collaborator and friend Duncan Sparks.

Both songs are included in Ben's new EP Vanta, released last Friday, June 3, on MINT Music. Vanta was produced with the help of super-famed Los Angeles mix engineer Mark Needham (The Killers, Imagine Dragons, Pink, Shakira) and it's a (too short) collection of amazing contemporary adult pop/pop rock songs, written with the experience and maturity of a man much older than Ben. Imagine a mix between Eighties pop rock b-heroes Tim Feehan and John Farnham with a state-of-the-art sound and modern arrangements.

Cheerleader - The Sunshine Of Your Youth

Cheerleader is a new, interesting indie rock/power pop five piece from Philadelphia.

The band was formed in 2012 in Connecticut by schoolmates Joe Haller and Chris Duran; when the duo moved to Philadelphia in 2013 they began to produce and release demos on SoundCloud which drew attention from the likes of NME and Nylon.
The group expanded to a five-piece with the addition of Paul Impellizeri, Josh Pannepacker and Carl Bahner. After a year of tours which included the festivals CMJ, the NME stage at Great Escape and SXSW, the band signed to Bright Antenna Records in 2013.

After a single and an EP, the band released its full-length debut last May 19. It's titled The Sunshine Of Your Youth and was produced and mixed by the great engineer Mark Needham (The Killers, Imagine Dragons, Pink) who, after a gig in New York, invited Cheerleader to record with him in Los Angeles.
