Enter MEG MYERS' Motel Wednesday, 27 April 2016 23:10 by madseason
Meg Myers - Motel

I want to push a little more on Meg Myers, an amazing pop-rock artist that released her debut full-length album Sorry last September.

Motel is the title of her new single off Sorry: the related brand new video was directed by Justin Nolan Key (David Fanning, Jewel, Sandra Lynn)and you can watch it now clicking on the image.

"Sometimes when I'm on tour in different motels/hotels every night, I start feeling insane and trapped in my mind thinking about life and everything," said Meg about the song. "That's kind of what this video represents to me. I've always thought there's something so deeply sad and beautiful about being a kid and then growing up."

Meg performed at the Coachella festival last April 17. Enjoy the live rendition of Motel following this link.

STARING OUT THE SUN: The Movie Monday, 25 April 2016 22:14 by madseason
Break The Silence - Break The Silence - The Movie

Last year I introduced to my readers the 4 piece London-based rockers Staring Out The Sun with their debut EP Break The Silence.

The modern and anthemic hard-hitting rock act has just released a full mini movie based on their EP.

"We didn’t want to be like every other band out there. We wanted to say something unique to us. By making a movie out of our whole EP we could do just that" said the band.

The movie was directed by Paul Blue and you can watch it now clicking on the image.

The band's full length debut Dawn drops May 13th, so stay tuned for further news on Staring Out The Sun.

BLUE OCTOBER: Oops!... They Did It Again Saturday, 23 April 2016 12:00 by madseason
Blue October - Home

You know sometimes I like to cover more established acts aside the emerging ones. This always happens when Texan indie/alternative heroes Blue October deliver a new album.

Home is their eight studio album, co-produced and mixed by the band's long time collaborator and music legend Tim Palmer (David Bowie, Robert Plant, Pearl Jam, U2, Ozzy Osbourne, Tears For Fears, Goo Goo Dolls just to name a few of the acts he worked with).

Home was released a few hours ago and immediately hit the #1 spot on the iTunes Alternative Albums chart. Needless to say it's much deserved, as this is yet another exceptional record by Justin Furstenfeld & Co.

This is what Justin wrote to his friends on Facebook on the eve of the album's release: "I'm more than moved by all of the support you've given us. I believe that we've all gone on a tremendous journey together. A journey where hopefully we've learned that winning means that we've found that joy is reachable, that peace is a breath away, and we don't have to join every fight we are asked to attend. If someone were to tell me four years ago that I would be writing an album with my boys @harvard_of_the_south @tufstrings @orbstudiosatx and @timpalmermixer how to live our life to the fullest I would've laughed in your face. The fact that we were able to put all of our focus on such positivity and strength and dismiss everything else still puts me in awe."

If you still haven't, watch the video for the title-track and leading single of the album Home and, of course, go buy this magic album. By the way, the cover image is a painting created by artist Rhys Bright depicting Jeremy and Justin Furstenfeld's parents' first kiss.

LARKIN POE: From KIN to RESKINNED Thursday, 21 April 2016 22:35 by madseason
Larkin Poe - Don't

Larkin Poe is a roots rock band from Atlanta, GA, fronted by sisters Rebecca and Megan Lovell. "Larkin Poe" was the name of their great-great-great-grandfather, who was a distant cousin of Edgar Allan Poe.

Larkin Poe've just released Reskinned, a fresh version of the original album KIN from two years ago, relaunched with 5 new tracks conveying the heavier more rock side of these American Sisters. The LP also has three new mixes of "old" favorites Stubborn Love, Don't and Crown Of Fire.

Reskinned dropped last week via RH Music, the music division of San Francisco-based company Restoration Hardware, under exclusive license to Vertigo/Capitol Universal, with production handled by Chris Seefried, Damien Lewis, Justin Warfield and Wax LTD.

Reskinned is, basically, a catchy and raw straight-up rock album, with great hooks, soulful vocals, southern harmonies, heavy electric guitar riffs and a rich and varied musicianship. I'm sure this jewel will be ranked among the best rock album of the year.

Watch Rebecca and Lovell playing their latest single Trouble In Mind live at Conan a few days ago and, while you're there, watch the video for the new version of Don't clicking on the image. Then, do yourself a big favor and stream the whole Reskinned album on Spotify. A mandatory listening.

Debut full length for THE FRANCES DESIRE Tuesday, 19 April 2016 15:37 by madseason
The Frances Desire - New Fast Low

The Frances Desire is an interesting Danish alternative rock band from Copenaghen. They released their self-produced debut full length album Persona last April 8 as a collaboration with Prime Collective, with physical distribution handled by Border Music and Indigo (GSA).

The band's very personal interpretation of the alternative rock genre demonstrates how ambitious and charismatic the Danish are, drawing inspirations from a lot of bands without aping anybody.

It's not easy to choose the best songs from this strong album, so stream the whole LP on Spotify and judge by yourself. Also, watch the video for the leading single off Persona, New Fast Low, clicking on the image.

LIGHTS: Little Machines at Midnight Sunday, 17 April 2016 23:01 by madseason
Lights - Meteorites

Canadian electropop musician Valerie Anne Poxleitner, better known as Lights, has just released Midnight Machines, an album comprised of six acoustic songs from her most recent album Little Machines, plus two brand new songs.

The album was released last April 8. The new tracks are Follow You Down and Head Cold, and the leading single is an acoustic version of Meteorites.

The video for Meteorites was shot entirely in reverse, with Lights singing every lyric backwards and at double speed during the filming. Check it out clicking on the image and stream the whole album on Spotify now.

SMOKE SEASON: Ouroboros is out Friday, 15 April 2016 21:00 by madseason
Smoke Season - Ouroboros

Smoke Season's new EP Ouroboros is released today, Friday, April 15.

As previously reported, Ouroboros' concept is about four different characters, each fighting their own personal battle, whose seemingly disparate lives intertwine to demonstrate the interconnectedness of humanity. Each character's got his own song and music video: we already followed the stories of Samantha, in an heartbreaking tale of teenage LGBT love, and Chase, a father who, upon his return from war, is tormented by the tragic effects of PTSD.

Before discovering the next two videos, we have now the chance to focus on the whole EP itself. We already know Loose, with its peculiar electro-Americana sound, and the moody When The Smoke Clears, with its amazing textured electric guitar lines.

The 4-track EP (6-track, if we consider the Intro and Outro), continues with Emilia, a slow, simple number with a mesmerizing, relaxed vibe and Santa Rosa, which, in contrast, is upbeat and more structured in its first part, before a delicious guitar break slow things down to an atmospheric ending.

Stream the whole ep on Spotify and buy it on iTunes. Support great indie music!

DOUBLE EXPERIENCE: Video games in rock Wednesday, 13 April 2016 22:47 by madseason
Double Experience - So Fine

Double Experience, the Canadian (Ottawa, ON) purveyors of nerdy neo-rock, as they define themselves, have successfully crafted their third album, Unsaved Progress, a nine song collection recorded with the help of Al Jacob and Kit Walters in North Carolina and printed on limited edition 90's video game packaging.  "Video games are the new standard in modern storytelling, and Unsaved Progress is very much the story of everything that inspired our band to persevere through the challenges we faced in making this album" said the band.

Double Experience have all it gets to become huge: creativity, top-notch songwriting skills, strong musicianship... jesus, they've even got a smashing cover of Blue Öyster Cult's Godzilla... that alone is worth my praise!

Eclectic and flawless at the same time, Unsaved Progress is an awesome alternative music record that draws influence from both classic and modern rock. It was released last Friday, April 8: check the video for the single So Fine clicking on the image and stream the whole affair on SoundCloud now.
