foster the people torches

Interested in a fusion of indie electronic rock and psychedelic soul-pop with funky beats? So californian Foster The People is a band you better look for.

Mark Foster (vocals, keyboards, piano, synthesizers, guitar, programming, percussion), Mark Pontius (drums and extra percussion) and Cubbie Fink (bass and backing vocals) are three guys from Los Angeles that will debut their first full-length album "Torches" next week for Columbia Records.

Listen to the single "Pumped Up Kicks", written and recorded by Mark Foster at Mophonics in Venice, California, and get caught in its irresistable rhythm.

AUGUSTANA Augustana mercoledì, 18 maggio 2011 16:52 by madseason

augustana

No, this is not an original disc and I'm afraid that the blend of americana and anthemic pop rock melodies in the Killers' style proposed by Augustana on the new, self-titled album (released a few weeks ago) will not win the favorable comments of the major music magazines.

But here at weChameleon we like it, and with good reasons. Firstly because we love Brandon Flowers' band (and if you need to be heavily inspired by someone, better be inspired by the best ones) and secondly because there isn't a bad song in the tracklist.

Listen to the opener and first single "Steal Your Heart", or the Killers meets Tonic "Just Stay Here Tonight", or "Counting Stars" (a sort of "She's The One" by Robbie Williams reworked by Better Than Ezra together with Oasis) and let me know. Nice work.

Sing with SOUNDS UNDER RADIO mercoledì, 18 maggio 2011 01:18 by madseason

"Sing" is the first single from Sounds Under Radio's sophomore release, "Where My Communist Heart Meets My Capitalist Mind".

This song was also selected to be used in the newest promo spots and commercials for American Idol: not bad at all!

I've still to listen to these texans' new album, but I can say that "Sing" is a great alt. rock track supported by a very nice and epic video, directed by Jeff Ray. Check it out.

Lovely video of "Give Me Something", from the ep with the same name released a few months ago by Scars On 45.

They're a very nice band from Leeds (UK) and their blend of modern pop rock with Fleetwood Mac influences deserves your attention.

Enjoy!

KATE BUSH releases Director's Cut lunedì, 16 maggio 2011 09:30 by madseason

kate bush director's cutKate Bush releases an unusual new album "Director's Cut" today on her own label Fish People, in conjunction with EMI.

On "Directors Cut" Kate revisits a selection of tracks from her albums "The Sensual World" and "The Red Shoes", a process that presents a fascinating portrait of an artist in a constant state of evolution. She has re-recorded some elements whilst keeping the best musical performances of each song – making it something of a director's cut but in sound, not vision.

A new version of "Deeper Understanding" has been released as a single in April. Although written some twenty years ago, the song may be more relevant today than ever…

Kate is currently working on new material although no release date has been set for this.

"Director's Cut" will be released in the following formats: Digital Album, Standard CD in a case-bound book, Deluxe CD (three disc package, including Director's Cut, The Sensual World and re-mastered The Red Shoes) in a case-bound book and two-disc vinyl. Other digital and vinyl formats will be made available on katebush.com.

MANCHESTER ORCHESTRA Simple Math sabato, 14 maggio 2011 16:32 by madseason

Manchester Orchestra Simple Math

I wasn't a great fan of Manchester Orchestra's previous albums, too mottled in sound and simply not interesting enough. So I approached "Simple Math" (officialy released last tuesday) with more than a doubt, just to find out that the Atlanta-based band has really grown.

The concept behind the new release ("It's a story about a 23-year old who questions everything from marriage to love to religion to sex", tells us frontman Andy Hull) has been cleverly developed with intense, more focused songs, so that MO's alternative rock gained an "arena rock with an indie soul" vibe. I mean, they're moving in Blue October's territory with "Simple Math": there's passion, there's anger, there's introspection, there's the fire and there's the lullaby.

Sure there's still a lot of way to go for Manchester Orchestra to reach the same levels of inspiration and artfulness of the texans: some tracks are still pretty annoying or not incisively crafted. But "Simple Math" is a major step in the right direction, and a very good album all told.
