Rising stars: THOMAS NEPTUNE giovedì, 20 ottobre 2011 16:00 by madseason
Thomas Neptune

Thomas Neptune is a new name for most people, but he's got all it takes to get on everyone's lips. Thomas is a singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist from Ohio, but he's been settled in Los Angeles for seven years now.

"Down To Earth", his 4-tracks EP released a few months ago, shows us an artist with a beautiful, soul-tinged voice, a cross between Justin Timberlake and Adam Levine as some says, and brilliant songwriting skills. The songs' style ranges from modern pop in Maroon 5/OneRepublic fashion ("Unbreakable", "We're Beautiful"), to acoustic based pop-rock (the opener "The Good Times"), with traces of Americana (the closing number "My Ohio").

Neptune is also at ease in the production of his songs, and for "Down To Earth" he worked with expert knobs-wiz Mike Geier (Paul Oakenfold, BOB, C Lo Green, Justin Bieber, NBC's Sing Off) with excellent results.

Thomas has just won the prestigious John Lennon Songwriting Contest with "Unbreakable", and is ready to make himself known to a much wider audiance. An audiance that he absolutely deserves. Discover his music at this address, and buy his EP on iTunes now!.
SAFETYSUIT: new album postponed mercoledì, 19 ottobre 2011 17:07 by madseason
safetysuit

A few days ago I wrote: "As you may know, SafetySuit sophomore album "Times Like These" will be out on next week on Universal Records." Well, the famous last words: it has just come to my attention that the new SafetySuit record won't be on the shelves or online until early 2012.

The reason? It seems that the record company needs more time to better promote the new single "Let Go", the track produced by OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder (video on the left). I'll keep you updated.

Rising stars: I TRENI ALL'ALBA lunedì, 17 ottobre 2011 23:07 by madseason
It was about time that I listened to a great record by an Italian band...
I found out I Treni All'Alba (The Trains At The Dawn, in english) thanks to a contact at RockShots Agency, which provides the promotion for this band coming from Turin and Aosta.
"2011 A.D." is the second album by this group: I didn't know what I was going to hear, but the first notes of the intro immediately claimed my attention, releasing it only at the very end of the record.
The music of I Treni All'Alba is totally instrumental, and is based primarily on acoustic instruments (guitars, piano, drums) with the addition of pedal effects that enrich the sound, increasing its depth and livening the atmosphere up.
i treni all'alba

The 4 musicians involved in this project mix folk music (there are references to the "Mediterranean" sound for sure... they're italian after all!), 70s progressive rock, a touch of jazz and a modern, post-core attitude. Not to mention the welcome references to movies soundtracks that emerge here and there, providing an interpretative reference point.

The result of this blend is a very dynamic album, where the technical skills are at the service of extremely captivating and often exciting compositions. The songs never sound trite, predictable but, at the same time, show no trace of self-indulgence: a rarity in the current prog scene.

But enough of the chatter: stream all the tracks on the disc at this link and judge by yourself. For me, "2011 A.D." is one of the best instrumental albums of the last ten years. Well done, ragazzi!

r.e.m.

R.E.M. have been a pivotal reference in the creation and development of the alternative rock genre. As everybody knows, the group disbanded last month, leaving thousands of fans in despair.

But, as it was easily predictable, we haven't heard the last from Stipe & Co. with their fifteenth and final studio album "Collapse Into Now": Warner Bros. will release on November 15th a double disc greatest hits album titled "Part Lies, Part Heart, Part Truth, Part Garbage 1982–2011". In addition to previously-recorded music that spans the band's entire career, this definitive retrospective includes three new songs: "Hallelujah" and "A Month Of Saturdays" were demoed in the "Collapse Into Now" sessions, while the lead single "We All Go Back To Where We Belong" (out next week) was recorded entirely after that album. Watch the trailer for "Part Lies..." here.

This is the video for "Thick As Thieves", the new single by St. Louis rockers Cavo, directed by Frankie Nasso and featuring the guys performing on a hi-rise rooftop in their hometown.

Cavo's new album, their first on top rock independent label Eleven Seven Music, is set for release in early 2012 and it's titled as the single "Thick As Thieves". It was recorded at House of Loud Studios in New Jersey, with the production of Kato Khandwala, David Bendeth and Dan Korneff.

safetysuit

As you may know, SafetySuit sophomore album "Times Like These" will be out on next week on Universal Records.

"Let Go" is the second single from the new album, and clicking on the image on the left you can watch the new video for it. A few words about the song from frontman Doug Brown: "Sometimes you just have to be realistic and say 'you know what? If you can't see how great I am, then I think we should be done now. I think it's time we let go'"

samestate

This is the brand new music video by christian alternative rockers Samestate, from Kansas City, USA.

The song is called "Hurricane" and is taken from the EP released last July on Sparrow Records/EMI CMG.

Samestate will release their debut full-length album titled "The Alignment", on February 28th 2012. The record will include the 4 songs featured on the EP.

ALPHA REV are back to the roots mercoledì, 12 ottobre 2011 00:35 by madseason
Alpha Rev

"City Farm: Roots", Alpha Rev's new EP, is available NOW!
You can preview all the songs on their facebook page and download the opening track for free here. And from what I heard, I can say that "City Farm" is a lovely, back to the roots 5-track mini-album.

As stated before on weChameleon, Alpha Rev raised money to record and promote this EP through a PledgeMusic campaign. This is what the texans said about it: "To everyone who pledged to make this EP a reality, from all of us at Alpha Rev, thank you for being a part of making this record come true, and we hope that it does for you what it is already doing for us - bringin' us back to our roots."

In addition to the new EP, Alpha Rev have re-released their brilliant last full-length album "New Morning" with 10 previously unreleased b-sides from the "New Morning" sessions. You can preview it on facebook. And don't forget to visit their store to buy the music!
