Some random stuff today, starting from "Modern Love", a free track of an interesting pop rock rock/powerpop band from Orange County, CA called Midnight Hour. They have a new record coming soon, that will also feature this free song.   I think that MuteMath new album "Odd Soul" is fresh and exciting, with more electronics than before but also with a lot of strong tracks. It's out next week, but if you're located in the USA you can stream it in its entirety now, courtesy of Jimmy Kimmel Live! site.   Belgian rockers Zornik have made a video for their new song "Running After You". This track will be included in their upcoming  "The Best Of Zornik", out on October 14th.
death cab for cutie

Last thursday Death Cab For Cutie premiered their new video for "Stay Young, Go Dancing", directed by Claire Carre. The song is the closing one of their last album "Codes And Keys". Watch the video clicking on the image. Also from last thursday comes the live performance of "Stay Young, Go Dancing" at the Late Show with David Letterman. Follow this link to watch it.   If you're more on a singer/songwriter mood, check out "Music For A Rainy Town", the new, honest work by thrilling ex-Dakona vocalist Ryan McAllister‏. Dakona made a great alternative melodic rock album in 2003 titled "Perfect Change". It's easy to find it on the net for a few bucks. Don't miss it if you still don't own it.

Indie pop rock band Howling Bells will join Elbow as opening act of their european tour: see dates here.   Swedish heavy rockers Renegade Five have a new EP out: it's titled "Life Is Already Fading" and you can listen to the titletrack, featuring Elize Ryd from the band Amaranthe here. The EP comes before the new full-length album, to be released later in the year.   Mainstream rockers Final Thought, from Toronto, Canada, will release their debut album "What We Need" on November, 8th. The record's been produced by Bob Freeman (Hit The Lights, Hidden In Plain View, Cobra Starship) and features the catchy single "This Party".
official gameday music of the nfl

The second EP of the "Official Gameday Music of the NFL", released at the beginning of the month through Banshee Records, features a new song by Oklahoma mainstream rockers Hinder, titled "The Fight's About To Begin". Hear it now, clicking on the title.

Also featured on the album is "American Idol" alumn James Durbin with the song "Stand Up", one of the first opportunities for fans to hear the direction Durbin plans to go with his post-Idol music. James Durbin had a successful run on Season 10 of "American Idol", reaching the final four. He earned a contract with Wind-up Records and has been prepping his debut album, "Memories Of A Beautiful Disaster" with a release planned for November 21th.

JACK'S MANNEQUIN film for Television venerdì, 30 settembre 2011 00:53 by madseason
Jack's Mannequin will release their new, Rob Cavallo produced record "People And Things" next week via Sire Records. And you already knew that.
Jack's Mannequin

What maybe you don't know yet is that on Monday October 3rd Jack's Mannequin will host a film screening at the Angelika Theatre in NYC to present short films for each of the songs on "People and Things". The 11 short films were commissioned to provide an artistic visual counterpart to the album and were each directed by a different independent director. The screening event will be followed by a stripped-down performance by frontman Andrew McMahon. The short films will also be premiering on YouTube at the same time as the theater event.

The film for the track "Television" is up on YouTube now. Watch it clicking on the frame on the left.

New videos: THEORY OF A DEADMAN, DESTINE, BETA WOLF giovedì, 29 settembre 2011 23:30 by madseason
theory of a deadman

Canadian active rockers Theory Of A Deadman ready the new video for the song "Bitch Came Back", from their last album, the Howard Benson produced "The Truth Is…", released last July via Roadrunner Records.

"It's a hilarious look at every guy's worst stalker nightmare. The stalker in this case may be gorgeous, but she's utterly deadly" they say at ARTISTdirect.com, that joined forces with Theory Of A Deadman to debut one of the sexiest music video of the year. Click on the image to watch it.

destine

Dutch pop punk band Destine has a new video out for the song "Stay". The song was released last June, and will be featured on the band's new studio album, that will see the light of the day next year. The video has been produced and directed by Sitcom Soldiers and you can watch it with the usual click on the left image.

Destine released their debut album "Lightspeed" last year on Sony Music: I think it was just a so and so record, and I'm expecting much more from the sophomore one.

beta wolf

Beta Wolf raised from the ashes of Orange County rock group Takota. After the band broke up, 3 of the members, Grant Arnow, Danny Roddy and Brett Anderson joined Sergio Rueles and Drew Langan to create Beta Wolf.

Beta Wolf have recorded a full-length album, "Dark Days", that will be released on October, 19 on JVC - Victor Music Japan. Clicking on the left, you can watch the video for the first single off the record, titled "Believe In Love" (not the most original title...). Enjoy.

augustana

This comes totally unexpected by me: californian rockers Augustana have called it a day. In a phone conversation with Red Bull USA, the group's lead vocalist and pianist Dan Layus provided some informations about the situation: "The two original members with me as well, Justin [South] and Jared [Palomar], have parted ways. It's a sad thing, but it's been an amicable split and it's just kinda tough," Layus reveals. "It's hard to keep a band together. We had a good run and it was a blast while we could do it, but everybody is good. Everybody is friends. It's just tough to sustain a business like that."

train

Luckily enough we have a new Train song to lift us up. It's called "Brand New Book" and will be played during the opening credits of NBC's weight-loss competition show "The Biggest Loser". Click on the image to hear it.

Train's Pat Monahan and Jerry Becker wrote two songs for submission, an uptempo number that wasn't used and "Brand New Book". At the time Monahan was writing these songs, he was also penning with David Hodges the track "To Be Loved", that I featured here.

foo fighters

Last night the legendary Roger Waters played Pink Floyd's "In The Flesh" with Foo Fighters at the "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" show. Watch the performance by clicking on the image on the left.

Foo Fightes will start a new american tour on October 9th, to support their last great album "Wasting Light", while Pink Floyd and EMI Music have just launched a comprehensive release schedule with CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray discs etc. For more info on the initiative, head on to Pink Floyd's website.

The fire still burns for HARD-FI martedì, 27 settembre 2011 23:24 by madseason
Hard-Fi

Hard-Fi released their third studio album "Killer Sounds" last August. I think it's a return to form for the english guys, after a weak sophomore record. The new work is full of catchy tunes that mix indie pop rock with dance beats, synth wave with a Clash attitude. "Killer Sounds" features the singles "Good For Nothing" (watch the video here) and "Fire In The House" (click on the image on the left). But I can assure you that these aren't the only songs with great hooks on the record.

The band is playing the last gigs of the british tour and in November they'll be in continental Europe for a bunch of dates. Head on to the Hard-Fi website for a complete schedule.

fictionist

You may remember space indie rock band Fictionist, from Salt Lake City (Utah), for the excellent album "Lasting Echo", released last year. The great news is that Stuart Maxfield and his mates have signed a recording deal with Atlantic Records. Congratulations!

The band will release a new self-titled EP very soon. They will let us know how to get a physical copy of it later; meanwhile you can stream the entire EP from their facebook page for a limited time.

carolina liar

As reported earlier, Carolina Liar are releasing their new, second studio album "Wild Blessed Freedom" tomorrow.

Aol Music is streaming the whole album in their Listening Party section. Click on the image on the left to be redirected on the site.

If you haven't seen the video for the first single off the new record "Drown" yet, follow this link.

ryan adams

Speaking of whole albums in streaming, head on to this site if you wanna stream the full new Ryan Adams album, called "Ashes & Fire".

"Ashes & Fire" is the thirteenth studio record by the alternative country/rock singer songwriter from North Carolina, and maybe his sparest, mellowest work to date.

Produced by Glyn Johns, is set to be released on October 10th via PAX-AM - Capitol Records.
